1. Adverbs of manner:

Đa số các trạng từ chỉ cách thức được hình thành bằng cách thêm -ly vào sau tính từ:

- careful – carefully (một cách cẩn thận)

- clear – clearly (một cách rõ ràng)

- slow – slowly (một cách chậm chạp)

* Nếu tính từ kết thúc bằng -y, thì bỏ -y và thêm -ily:

+ easy – easily (một cách dễ dàng)

+ angry – angrily (một cách giận dữ)

+ greedy – greedily (một cách tham lam)

* Nếu tính từ kết thúc bằng -le, thì bỏ -e thêm -y:

+ gentle – gently (một cách nhẹ nhàng)

+ reasonable – reasonably (một cách hợp lý)

+ terrible – terribly (một cách tồi tệ)

* Nếu tính từ kết thúc bằng -ic, thêm -ally

+ magic – magically (một cách kỳ diệu)

2. Modal: should

a) Thể khẳng định:

Subject + should + verb

E.g: You should tidy your room.

b) Thể phủ định:

Subject + should not + verb

E.g: You shouldn’t tell lies.

c) Thể nghi vấn:

Should + subject + verb

E.g: Should I go and see them?

2. Modal: should

3. Commands, requests and advice in reported speech:

a) Reporting orders and requests:

The pattern is verb + indirect object + to – clause:

Other verbs used to report orders and requests in this way are: command, order, warn, ask, advice, invite, beg, teach, and forbid.

The doctor said to me, “stop smoking!”.

=> The doctor told me to stop smoking.

b) Requests for objects:

Requests for objects are reported using the pattern “asked for” + object

“Can I have an apple?”

=> She asked for an apple.

c) Suggestions:

Các đề xuất thường được báo cáo bằng cách sử dụng động từ “suggest, insist, recommend, demand, request, and propose” theo sau là một mệnh đề “that”.

She said, “why don’t you get a mechanic to look at the car?”

- She suggested that I should get a mechanic to look at the car.

Exercise 1: Choose the correct answer:
