1. Past simple:

Được sử dụng để miêu tả một hành động hoặc sự kiện xảy ra và kết thúc trong quá khứ.

a) Thể khẳng định:

S + V (ed / irregular) + O

E.g: Peter played badminton with his friend yesterday.

       Linh bought some books at the bookshop.

*Lưu ý: S = I / He / She / It / Danh từ số ít + was

            S = We / You / They / Danh từ số nhiều + were

E.g: I was at my cousin’s house yesterday afternoon.

       They were in Hanoi on their summer vacation last year.

b) Thể phủ định:

– S + did not + V (nguyên mẫu)

*Lưu ý: did not = didn’t

They didn’t accept our offer.

S + was / were + not

Long wasn’t at home last Sunday.

We weren’t happy because our team lost.

Yes, I was / No, I wasn’t.

c) Thể nghi vấn:

Câu hỏi trong thì quá khứ đơn có thể được chia thành hai loại: câu hỏi Yes/No và câu hỏi WH.

– Yes / No question:

Cấu trúc: Was / Were + S + …

Were you sad when you didn’t get good marks?

– Yes, I was. / No, I wasn’t.

Cấu trúc: WH – question

WH – word + was / were + S (+ not) + …?

E.g: What was the weather like yesterday?

       Why were you sad?

2. Prepositions of time: in, on, at, after, before, between, used to:

– In (trong, vào): Tháng, năm, mùa, thập niên, thập kỷ, các buổi trong ngày.

E.g: in January, in 2000, in the 1960s, in spring.

– On (vào): Các thành phần thời gian bao gồm ngày trong tuần, ngày và tháng, ngày tháng năm và các ngày cụ thể, cũng như các cụm từ có sẵn.

E.g: on Wednesday, on 10th March, on time, on Christmas Day.

– At (vào lúc): thời gian trong một ngày, các dịp lễ, cụm từ cố định.

E.g: at 9 o’clock, at Christmas, at the same time, at the moment.

– Before (trước khi): Các cụm từ chỉ thời gian.

E.g: Before 10 a.m, before Christmas, before 2015.

– After (sau khi): Các cụm từ chỉ thời gian

E.g: After breakfast, After school.

– Between (giữa): giữa hai khoảng thời gian.

E.g: between 2 p.m and 5 p.m, between August and December.
