II. ĐIỂM NGỮ PHÁP (LANGUAGE FOCUS):

1. “Much” and “many”

- We can use much for uncountable nouns (things you can’t count, like milk and sugar).

How much sugar do we need?

- We can use many for plural countable nouns (things you can count, like eggs and tomatoes)

How many eggs do we need?

How much sugar do we need?

We need 100g of sugar. 

How many eggs do we need?

We need  two eggs.

We don’t have much  milk left.

We don’t have many eggs left.

2. Indefinite and definite articles:

- We use a / an with singular nouns when we talk about something for the first time. (Chúng ta sử dụng a / an với danh từ số ít kh chúng ta nói về điều gì đó trong lần đầu tiên)

After that, we use the. (Sau đó, chúng ta sử dụng the)

- We use an before nouns beginning with the vowel letters a, e, i, o and  u. (Chúng ta sử dụng an trước những danh từ bắt đầu bằng phụ âm a, e, i, o và u)

I bought a can  of beans. I put the can of beans in the cupboard.

I ate an ice cream. The ice cream was chocolate flavored.

Yesterday, morning, Pete’s mom went shopping to get groceries. She got a carton of eggs, a can of tomatoes, and an onion for dinner that night. When she got home, she asked her son, Pete, to help her put the groceries away. He put the eggs in the fridge and the onion in the top cupboard. He put the tomatoes in the bottom cupboard next to the sink. Later, she went to the store to get things for lunch. She got a bunch of bananas, a bag of chip, and two sandwiches. The bananas went into the bottom cupboard, the chips into the top cupboard, and the sandwiches into the fridge. That night, Pete helped his mom cook a delicious dinner.
