² Danny’s POV ²
A voice echoed through the train: “We will be reaching Hogwarts in five minutes. Please leave your luggage on the train; it will be taken to the school separately.”
I felt my stomach flip; I've been there. I grew up there, but why am I so scared? Is it because it's my turn to be sorted?
We all got out the train, I shivered in the cold night air, “You alright?” I felt Harry placed his arms around my shoulder.
“Just, just a bit nervous.” I let out a nervous chuckle, “you'll be alright.” He patted my back.
Harry and I heard a familiar voice, “Firs' years! Firs' years! Come on, now, don't be shy! Come on now, hurry up!”
Harry and I walked up to Hagrid, Ron followed us.
“Hello, Harry, Danny” uncle Hagrid smiled.
“Hey/Hello, Hagrid/uncle.” Harry and I spoke at the same time.
“No more'n four to a boat!” Uncle Hagrid called, pointing to a fleet of little boats sitting in the water by the shore, I, Harry, Ron, and also a boy named Neville joined us.
“Everyone in?” Shouted, uncle Hagrid, who had a boat to himself. “Right then-- FORWARD!!!”
The fleet of little boats moved off all at once, gliding across the lake, which was as smooth as glass. Everyone was silent, staring up at the great castle.
“Wow, I can believe that Hogwarts looks like this outside.” I stared in front of me.
I felt eyes to me, but I choose to ignore it instead.
² Harry’s POV ²
I stared at her, and I also noticed how everyone is even glancing at her.
“She's glowing.” I heard Neville mumbled. Ron nodded as he keeps staring at the glowing girl.
“I can't wait to be sorted.” She turned to us and smiled; I felt my cheeks heated.
² Danny’s POV ²
“The first years, Professor McGonagall.”
“Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them from here.” Aunt Minnie said.
“Welcome to Hogwarts. Now, in a few moments, you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats, you must be sorted into hour houses. They are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Now, while you are here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn your house points. Any rule-breaking, and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup.”
I noticed a toad sitting near to aunt Minnie, Neville jumps forward.
“Trevor!” He took his toad; aunt Minnie stared down at him.
“Aunt Minnie- I mean, Professor, I am sorry about him. He keeps losing his toad, we found his toad a while ago but lost it again. I'm sorry.” I said I felt many eyes looking at.
Aunt Minnie nodded and smiled a bit. “The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily.” After that, she left.
“How exactly do they sort us into houses?” Harry asked Ron and I, it gain a lot of attention.
“Some sort of test, I think. Fred said it hurts a lot. But I think he was joking. What do you think, Danny? You grew up here.” Everyone looked at me.
“Hahaha.” I laughed, “Of course, it's a joke, silly.” I grinned.
“There will be a hat; the hat will sort us into our house. And it won't hurt, don't worry, it doesn't bite or something. It will only look at your head and your ability, that's all.” I smiled at them; all of them nodded and thanked me.
But then, a voice came. “It's true then, what they're saying on the train. Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts, along with Danny Dumbledore.” I looked up, and it was the same boy I met at Madam Malkin's robe store.
The students started whispering; they were saying my name and Harry.
“Harry Potter?” “He's here?” “No wonder she knows so much about the sorting, she lives here.” “Isn't she the granddaughter of the headmaster?”
“This is Crabbe and Gyole.” He nodded at the two other boys who are looking at me; I smiled at them, but then their faces turn red.
“And I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy.” He introduced himself; I heard Ron snickers at his name.
His name means Dragon in Latin. I know I've read it somewhere.
He turned to Ron and glared at him “Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask yours. Red hair and a hand me down robe? You must be a Weasley.”
There is nothing wrong, being a Weasley! They are kind and funny. They treat me great.
“We'll soon find that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. Don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there.” He gave Ron another look and extended a hand for a shake.
Now, I kind of hate him; he was kind to me when we first met. And now hate him because he's mean to Ron and to his family.
“I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks.” Harry rejected him, Draco glares at him then turn towards me.
“How about you, Dumbledore.” I gain everyone's attention, and I'm starting to hate it, not going to lie.
“I would love to but, Draco, you're mean,” I said in a soft voice before he could reply back. Aunt Minnie came back and smacked him on the shoulder with a paper. He retreats with one last glare at the two boys,
“We are ready now.” She said.
She leads us through two large doors and into the Great Hall, where there are four long tables with many kids, as well as floating candles. The roof appears to be the sky.
“It's not real, the ceiling. It's just bewitched to look like the night sky. I read about it in Hogwarts: A History.” I heard Hermione spoke, I've seen the same scene before, but I still get amazed.
I saw Percy, twins, and Oliver from the Gryffindor's table; they were looking at me. I smiled at them and waved, and they waved back at me.
But then my uneasiness struck at me again, and I instantly looked down again as Aunt Minnie silently set a four-legged stool in front of the first years. On top of the stool, she put a pointed wizard's hat. This hat was patched and frayed and extremely dirty.
Many things have been getting on to my mind. Like which house will be, I will be sorted? Noticing that everyone in the hall was now gazing at the hat, I stared at it, too. For a few seconds, there was complete silence. Then the hat twitched. A rip near the brim opened wide like a mouth -- and the hat began to sing:
“Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your black,
Your sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in ,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in ,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old ,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!”
The entire hall blast into applause as the hat completed its song. It bowed to each of the four tables and then became utterly still again.
Grandfather rises from the main table. “I have a few starts of term notices I wish to announce. The first years, please note that the dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also, our caretaker, Mr Filch” signals to the ragged old man with a cat with red eyes.
Then grandfather glanced at me, and I lowered my head, and I know I'll be more in trouble if I sneak in the forest again.
“Has asked me to remind you that the 3rd-floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you.” All my aunt and uncle gave me a glimpse not to even try to go there.
Aunt Minnie now stepped forward, holding a long roll of parchment. “When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted,” she said.
A pink-faced girl with blonde pigtails stumbled out of line, put on the hat, which fell right down over her eyes, and sat down - a moment's pause.
“HUFFLEPUFF!” shouted the hat.
The table on the right cheered and clapped as Hannah went to sit down at the Hufflepuff table. I saw the ghost of the Fat Friar waving cheerfully at her.
Now I'm getting more and more scared mainly anxious, I didn't notice that I started shaking and biting my nails, then I felt someone holding my hands, I looked at my right it was Harry then to my left it was Ron. It did calm me down a bit.
The table second from the left clapped this time; several Ravenclaws stood up to shake hands with Terry as he joined them.
As everyone getting called, you sense like you're going to explode. You don't know what to do next.
“Brocklehurst, Mandy” went to Ravenclaw too, but “Brown, Lavender” became the first new Gryffindor, and the table on the far left exploded with cheers; Harry and You could see Ron's twin brothers catcalling, you glared at them and rolled your eyes in disappointment.
They saw what you did; they both went silent. All your friends who are older than you, primarily the boys, noticed how you're holding hands with Harry and Ron.
It made them a bit irritated, and no one knows why they felt that.
“Bulstrode, Millicent” then became a Slytherin. Perhaps it was Harry's fantasy, after all, he'd heard about Slytherin, but he thought they looked like an unpleasant lot.
While you. You don't really care as long as this ceremony ends quickly. Your anxiety is chipping in, as you felt many eyes watching your back.
Sometimes, You and Harry noticed the hat shouted out the house at once, but at others, it took a little while to decide.
“Finnigan, Seamus,” the sandy-haired boy next to Harry in the line, sat on the stool for almost a whole minute before the hat declared him a Gryffindor.
“Oh, no. Okay, relax.” Hermione whispered to herself as she went up and sat at the chair.
“Mental that one, I'm telling you,” Ron said, Harry nods in agreement.
“Ah, right then...hmm...right. Okay...Gryffindor!!” The sorting hat said Ron groaned while Hermione jumps off with a smile.
When Neville Longbottom, the boy who kept losing his toad, was called, he fell over on his way to the stool. The hat took a long time to decide with Neville. When it finally shouted, “GRYFFINDOR,”
As there are only a few students, you let go of Harry and Ron's hand and begun nibbling your nails again and tapping your right foot. You are getting anxious about this ceremony.
Draco saunters up proudly. You noticed how the hat had barely touched his head when it screamed, “SLYTHERIN!”
There weren't many people left now. “Moon”. . . , “Nott”. . . , “Parkinson”. . . , then a pair of twin girls, “Patil” and “Patil”. . . , then “Perks, Sally-Anne.”
And yet they haven't called you, however, and all the Professors noticed how getting uneasy you are and biting your nails and lips.
Everything goes silent, but there are still some students whispering, Harry walks up and sits down.
“Potter, did she say?” “The Harry Potter?”
“Hmm,” said a small voice in his ear. “Difficult. Very difficult. Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind either. There's talent, A my goodness, yes and a nice thirst to prove yourself, now that's interesting. . . So, where shall I put you?”
“Not Slytherin. Not Slytherin.” Harry whispers, “Not Slytherin, eh?” said the small voice. “Are you sure? You could be great, you know, it's all here in your head, and Slytherin will help you on the way to greatness, no doubt about that, no? Well, if you're sure, better, be GRYFFINDOR!”
Harry heard the hat shout the last word to the whole hall. He took off the hat and walked shakily toward the Gryffindor table. He was so relieved to have been chosen and not put in Slytherin, and he hardly noticed that he was getting the loudest cheer yet.
Percy the Prefect got up and shook his hand vigorously, while the Weasley twins yelled, “We got Potter! We got Potter!” Harry sat down opposite the ghost in the ruff he'd seen earlier. The ghost patted his arm, giving Harry the sudden, unpleasant sense he'd just plunged it into a bucket of ice-cold water.
He could see the High Table properly now. At the end nearest him sat Hagrid, who caught his eye and gave him the thumbs up. Harry grinned back. And there, in the centre of the High Table, in a large gold chair, sat Albus Dumbledore. Harry recognized him at once from the card he'd gotten out of the Chocolate Frog on the train. Dumbledore's silver hair was the only thing in the whole hall that shone as brightly as the ghosts. Harry spotted Professor Quirrell, too, the nervous young man from the Leaky Cauldron. He was looking very peculiar in a large purple turban.
Harry again noticed how everyone is looking at a certain girl who hasn't been called, he wishes her to be in the same house with him, but there are some chances that she might not end up at the exact house as him.
And now there were only three people left to be sorted. “Thomas, Dean,” a Black boy even taller than Ron, joined Harry at the Gryffindor table. “Turpin, Lisa,” became a Ravenclaw, and then it was Ron's turn.
Ron gulps and walks up. He sits down, and the hat is put on. “Ah! Another Weasley. I know just where to put you...Gryffindor!!” Ron sighs and joined his friends and brothers.
“Well done, Ron, excellent,” said Percy Weasley pompously across Harry as “Zabini, Blaise,” was made a Slytherin and finally the name everyone has been waiting to be called.
Once you heard your name, you took a deep breath and went up. You were the only one left.
All the professors moved at bit forward, interested where you'll be sorted.
² Danny’s POV ²
I'm scared, I'm scared, that's all I could think of. I sat on the stool, and aunt Minnie placed the hat to my head.
“Ah, finally, a child who is capable of everything. You have a brave heart, daring like Gryffindor but playful, just and loyal as Hufflepuff. Very smart, sharp since born, it seems like you have read all the books at the library, child... Hmm... I see something, ah yes, the dark side. Cunning, ambitious, determined, and leadership. Yes, power.” The sorting hat says.
“But where to put you.” He adds.
“Everywhere, as long I get what I want,” I mumbled.
I once saw a book, one of the books who was with me since I was a baby.
Once I opened it, i was stunned at the story. It was about the Goddess and the Demon King.
But mostly my favourite, when everyone was kneeling down at the king. I felt something came over me when I saw the picture of the king and the people who were kneeling down.
It says, “A king should be brave, intelligent, loyal and mostly the leadership. A king would do anything for his people to now down to him; his people should fear him. A KING WHO SHOULD BE FEARED MY MANY PEOPLE.”
“Hmmm... Alright, I think I know now... SLYTHERIN!” The hat screamed.
There were cheering, loud cheering mostly coming from the Slytherin table.
“Ha! Poor Gryffindor thinks they will get the princess! Hahaha!” “We got her! Yes!”
After that auntie, Minnie rolled up her scroll and took the Sorting Hat away.
I looked at my uncle Severus. He nodded at me and smiled; I got off from the chair and went to my house table.
I sat next to Blaise. I saw at the corner of my eyes. My friends from the Gryffindor table were sad.
I had lock eyes with Oliver, and I uttered “Sorry” to him.
